As you enter the 14.5 acre property, you will drive over an old wooden bridge built over a creek runing through the property. A graceful weeping willow hugs the stream bank brushing the bridge, providing welcome summer shade.

The Cottages and Main Residence are situated about 150 metres from the road, surrounded by one and a half acres of gardens containing a vast array of trees and shrubs that attract many species of local bird life.

Andrew and Glenda

Andrew and Glenda

Colby Cottages were constructed over a period some years by Andrew and Glenda, the property owners, with an old world charm in mind. They are so named in honor of Andrew’s late mother, Marjorie Jean Colby, the last surviving member of the Colby lineage.

Many of the antique fittings, decor and construction materials have been sourced have been sourced from far and wide. Old wooden pulleys that came from a sailing ship based out of New Zealand in the 1800s. Timber lining from old since demolished buildings from Albury in the north to Toorak, Melbourne. French doors from restorers in Castlemaine. The list goes on …

Most of the furniture, including the queen sized brass beds, are originals from a bygone era. Many appointments, from lamp shades to shower heads and fireplace mantles have been lovingly restored and re-homed in our charming Cottages. Guests comment they feel transported back to a time in their childhood with memories triggered of long forgotten or long since lost family treasures.

Yet amidst the ambience of yesteryear none of the modern conveniences have been overlooked. There is reverse cycle air conditioning, spa baths, large screen TVs with DVD and CD players, microwave ovens, refrigerators and gas cookers. The bed frames may be antiques, but the mattresses are the latest in comfort and style, with underlays and lovely fresh linen that bring on a very deep and satisfying sleep after the day in the fresh country air.
